For this collaborative project, fellow artist, Miranda Fortenberry and I decided to ask the question “What do you find Beautiful?”. This question was to be answered with a picture and explanation, however detailed, as to what they found beautiful in order to find out the different perspective of beauty people held from all walks of life. The question was posted to our Facebook friends, on our walls, and a Facebook community was also created in order for people to submit their entries. Some anonymously messaged us personally as well as through the Facebook’s group messaging system. We wanted to explore a concept, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and that the standard of beauty is different all over the world. After compiling all the images and statements we installed the work with our own ideas in mind of what we viewed as beautiful and the idea that it was akin to looking into someone window or visiting a stranger’s house and seeing their photos hanging on the walls. This is where we came up with the idea to hang pictures using picture frames and windows. But we also wanted to hang Instagram sized photos to emphasize the new digital era of how people share and view the things that they love and find beautiful.
